Readrite - Learning through fun!

What is Readrite?

The Readrite scheme aims to attract people to education through fun, developing their talents and interests. It has been developed by the Burngreave Community Learning Campaign and key partners, including the Sheffield College and the Community Education Coordinators.

The scheme is aimed at people who speak English and want a way into education in small, enjoyable “bite size” chunks to improve their “skills for life” – the English and Maths skills that many people need to brush up on. Learners will be rewarded for their learning – with free materials, vouchers and a visit to the new Western Park museum.

At the Readrite launch at the Fir Vale Centre, Gill Raistrick from Hillsborough College explained: “the Readrite scheme is about freeing people to be creative and explore their talents – to release themselves from the mindsets they may be stuck in.” Councillor Steve Jones made a speech about the inspiration that community based learning gave to people in Burngreave. “Adult learning enables people to access their rights in life and gives people a step on the ladder towards reaching their potential,” he said.
